URL’s, What’s in a name?

Posted in Advertising, Blogs by Administrator on the November 24th, 2005

Google? What kinda name is this? Of course it brings to mind googolplex but how could one branding mean so much to a company? We all know what it means though, it’s the featured search engine used more than any other at this point.

When it comes to naming your URL it is important to be catchy, but is it more important to be relative? This is a question we all must face when we name our web site. Sometimes this is easy, for instance if you have a business names “Flowers-a-Plenty” then it’s a no brainer what you will name your site. At this point if www.flowers-a-plenty.com is not taken then of course this is the optimal decision. However, if your looking to start a flower business online is it very important to come up with a name that is both catchy and relevant? YES! Many of us don’t have the starting capital to make the brand name so we look for something that will be both specific for rankings, and catch the millions of web users attention. The name of your website will be something you have to live with, not just a page of hundreds that might end up on your site.

Posted in Adsense, Google related by Administrator on the November 23rd, 2005

From JenSense excelent blog!

While the new “Advertise on this site” feature was officially launched on Friday, the feature wasn’t actually seen live until late yesterday. So if you were opted in but didn’t see it, you should be seeing it now.

AdSense has a demo here. On the second screenshot of the demo, two company names are listed - epicurean.com information in the header, but the body of the text says PetPlace.com. Perhaps PetPlace was one of the original testers of this feature before it was removed as a case study.

If search engines determine that your website is popular, then they will list it as relevant to a search, the more popular - the more relevant. The more relevant, the higher you will be listed in search results. But how easy is to be popular?

Design to become popular:
The search engines calculate that if other websites containing subject matter in common with your website, have actually linked to your website, then yours is a popular site for that subject. The more links from websites with the same key words as you, the more popular your site is deemed. Plan to get those prized links.
